We have to take our government back! Let’s put the We back into We the People. By giving one hour of your time a week in activism, you can make a difference in the future of our country. Below is a list of some ideas for you to get involved:
- Write a letter to the editor of your local paper.
- Read the Constitution & Declaration of Independence
- Attend a local School Board, Township, County Commission or City Council meeting.
- Become a Citizen Journalist by starting a blog or Youtube channel to report on local events. See Technology section for more information.
- Attend a rally or protest.
- Write your State or Federal Representatives and let them know how you feel. Check links on home page for more information.
- Call in to a radio talk show.
- Post on other people’s blogs.
- Comment on stories in your on-line local newspaper StoryChat section.
- Volunteer for a campaign and make phone calls, go door-to-door, or distribute literature.
- Start a petition.
- Start a FaceBook Group for your cause, and join other groups. See Technology section for more information.
- Join Twitter, MySpace, Smartgirl Politics, or other on-line groups. See home page for links.
- Go to your local Representative’s In-District Office Hours
- Make a flier about your issue and hand it out at local events.
- Make a yard sign for your front lawn.
- Donate your money to political causes you believe in.
- Teach a class on government or history for local people.
- Give a speech on the state of our Union for a Senior center or local group.
- Become a candidate for public office.
- Call Lansing and Washington and tell them how you feel. See home page for more information.
- Talk to your friends and neighbors about what is happening in our Country.
- Teach your kids, grand-kids, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors about the history of America and the proper role of government.
What other ideas do you have? Both political parties have let America down. If a candidate wants your vote, they have to earn it. Make your voice heard. Hold your elected officials accountable for their votes and actions. It is time to get active!
